چکیده

Sine-wave speech (SWS) is a three-tone replica of speech, conventionally created by matching each constituent sinusoid in amplitude and frequency with the corresponding vocal tract resonance (formants). We propose an alternative technique of starting from a high-quality multicomponent sinusoidal representation, then decimating this model to only three components per frame. In contrast to SWS, the resulting signal contains only components that were present in the original signal. Consequently it preserves the harmonic fine structure of voiced speech. Perceptual studies indicate that this signal is judged more natural and intelligible than SWS. Furthermore, its tonal artifacts can mostly be eliminated by the introduction of only a few additional components, which leads to an intriguing speculation about grouping issues.

Shape invariant pitch modification of speech using a harmonic model

We present a simple but e ective approach to pitch modi cation of speech based on a harmonic model. Building on our time-scaling algorithm [1], pitch modi cation applies to a harmonically coded glottal wave estimate derived via a simple inverse ltering technique [3]. The modi ed glottal wave subsequently serves as input to an LPC vocal tract lter and the pitch-scaled speech is generated. Shape ...

A Non-Sinusoidal Reference Wave for Pwm Ac Drives

In this paper we propose a suitable reference wave for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) AC Drives. Staircase reference waves whose levels are calculated to eliminate certain harmonics are studied and a certain staircase reference waveform with L levels is constructed. When L is made very large in limit, this staircase waveform approaches a continuous one which is called Quasine (Quasi + Sine). This...

Efficient periodicity extraction based on sine-wave representation and its application to pitch determination of speech signals

This paper presents a novel low-complexity method for extracting periodicity of signals based on their sine-wave representation. In this representation, the signal is modeled as a finite sum of sine-waves, with time-varying amplitudes, phases and frequencies. We describe how one can modify the familiar spectral-comb analysis method to obtain a guaranteed and effective procedure to find the fund...

Fast and Accurate Measurement of the Rms Value of a Noncoherent Sampled Sine-wave

Abstract  In this paper a new estimator for the measurement of the rms value of a noncoherent sampled sine-wave is proposed. The key feature of this estimator is that the sine-wave offset, a priori estimated, is removed from the sine-wave. A formula used to estimate the sinewave offset is also given in the paper. It has been proved by means of computer simulations and experimental results that...

Errors Due to Harmonic Distortion and Noise

t AbstractLeast-squares' sine-fit algorithms are used extensively in signal-processing applications. The parameter estimates produced by such algorithms are subject to both random and systematic errors when the record of input samples consists of a fundamental sine wave corrupted by harmonic distortion or noise. The errors occur because, in general, such sine-fits will incorporate a portion of ...
